  • Group Therapy can be beneficial for many of us, as it offers a unique environment for support, feedback, and personal growth.

It would be natural for you to wonder if there is anyone for whom Group Therapy might not be beneficial. Generally speaking, the answer to that would be “no”, as Group Therapy can be of benefit to many of us.

That said, if you find yourself in the midst of a crisis, or feeling continually overwhelmed, you may feel that individual therapy might be the steady and containing space that feels most beneficial at this time.

  • Both support groups and group therapy can be valuable sources of support and growth, but their approaches and intentions differ based on the needs of the group members.

The primary goal of Support Groups is to offer emotional support, validation, and a sense of belonging by sharing experiences and coping strategies.

Group Therapy can offer what a Support Group can offer in addition to facilitating personal growth, self-awareness, and behavioural change.

  • Group Therapy can encompass various therapeutic approaches, such as psychodynamic, humanistic, or integrative therapies.

My Group Therapy practice is rooted in humanistic principles. Humanistic Group Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that emphasises human potential, personal growth, and self-awareness. Rooted in humanistic psychology, this approach views individuals as inherently good, capable of self-directed growth, and motivated toward fulfilling their potential. My influences include Irvin Yalom and Carl Rogers.

  • Research supports the simultaneous engagement in both Individual Therapy and Group Therapy. Results show that this can even enhance the likelihood of achieving meaningful and lasting change.

If it is financially feasible for you to do both, Individual Therapy can support you in processing experiences from Group Therapy, in readiness for you taking your experience back to Group Therapy.

Individual Therapy can also be a helpful space to explore what you might like to take to Group Therapy generally. If you are presently having Individual Therapy, I recommend that you discuss the possibility of dual participation with your therapist.

Steps Towards Joining Us

Step 1 - Free Consultation

A 20-25 minute call for you and I to explore your interest in Group Therapy. There will be space for you to ask any questions. I will have some things that I want to ask you too e.g. ‘What appeals to you about Group Therapy?’.

Step 2 - One-to-One Session

We will meet in person for 50 minutes to explore Group Therapy in more depth (£30). This provides a further opportunity to ask questions and explore what you might wish to gain from being part of a group. Furthermore, meeting in person gives us both a chance to see how we feel about ‘our fit’.

Step 3 - Join Group Therapy

We look at the timing of you joining the group together.

If there is space in the group you wish to join, we would work together for you to join at a time that took into account the following: your preferences; giving the present group notice of you joining; allowing time for you and the group to settle before any set breaks.

If there is not space you can join the waiting list.

Group Therapy sessions are 90 minutes weekly (£30)
